Illusions
This film, by Kornelijus and Diana Matuzevičius, is a portrait of the Jewish-Lithuanian writer and literary critic, Jokūbas Josadė (Yankev Yosade). The film subtly transcends his individual story to unlock the broader context of Lithuania, which had just regained its independence. The thoughts of a generation that was fading into oblivion, which are portrayed with abstract images, are akin to our contemporary way of life.
Kornelijus Matuzevičius graduated from Russian State Institute of Cinematography as a cameraman in 1971. Since 1970 he has been working at Lithuanian Film Studio as a director of photography for documentary film productions. For the films created together with Henrikas Šablevičius he was awarded the Lithuanian National Prize in 1990.
Diana Matuzevičienė studied at Stepas Žukas Arts and Crafts Polytechnic, attended the Juozas Miltinis‘s drama studio, studied Directing at Leningrad State Theatre, Music and Cinematography Institute. She worked at the Lithuania Film Studio as an assistant director and participated in groups making feature, educational and documentary films with Robertas Verba, Linas Lazėnas, Viktoras Starošas, Henrikas Šablevičius, Raimondas Vabalas, Algirdas Araminas and others.
