Vektor VR section at 16th Verzió

’Vektor’ is Hungary’s first artistic and documentary VR-section, organized by Random Error Studio and Zip-Scene Conference. It will take place 13–16 November, in the frame of the 16th Verzió International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival, where both international media professionals and local creators can be found.

Vektor will showcase the most recent, innovative VR productions that inspire and lead our imaginations into virtual reality – from 360-degree creations, to interactive documentaries, fictional films, and artistic room-scale VR productions (location-based entertainment [LBE]). The programs will unify facts or mind-blowing fiction with interactivity to present high-quality and innovative VR productions.

The theme of the first event is ‘the Zone’, a nod to the 40th anniversary of Andrei Tarkovsky’s philosophical movie, Stalker. We still remain curious about the Zone; the forbidden and strange place that imposes rules different from those of our daily life, but which continuously draws the protagonists nearer. How does it differ from our reality? Based on these inquiries, we are looking for immersive creations that deal with internalized space and spiritual pilgrimage, not only in terms of content, but also in terms of devices. How do we ‘incorporate’ head-mounted displays? How do we initiate ourselves into a different universe? In which VR-created spheres do we dwell? The Zone hereby also acts as a metaphor for the Holodeck vision of VR.

We are looking forward to creations that recreate the narrative concept in VR, and that take up the challenge of making use of different content types – for new immersive, interactive storytelling formats. The submitted formats can vary from 360-degree fictional films or documentaries, artistic VR-experiences, LBE and immersive journalism projects. The line-up for the event will be curated by our co-organizing partners.
