Circusboy
Eleven-year-old Santino is a child of the circus. He loves to spend time with his eighty-year-old great-grandfather, one of Europe‘s last great circus directors, who has become his best friend. Together, they share heartwarming stories: Stories of friendship with an elephant, of farewells, of new beginnings and life on the road. CIRCUSBOY chronicles the lives of these modern nomads, capturing a young boy‘s experience growing up among an extended family and animals - a life without a safety net, as free as a bird.
Directing duo Badabum from Berlin. Anna Koch & Julia Lemke graduated in 2016 from the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB) with their documentary SCHULTERSIEG, a coming-of-age drama set in the professional female wrestling scene of East Germany. SCHULTERSIEG won the award for Best Docu- mentary at the 2016 International Hofer Film Festival and was featured at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam 2016 and South by Southwest 2017, among others. The film received multiple awards. Since then, Anna and Julia have been working together as the directing duo BADABUM. Their debut film GLITZER & STAUB, produced by Katharina Bergfeld and Flare Film, a co-production with „ZDF Das kleine Fernsehspiel,“ premiered in January 2020 at the Max Ophüls Filmfestival and was featured at numerous international festivals, including the Krakow Film Festival, the Zlin International Film Festival, and the Gol- denen Spatz. Their new film ZIRKUSKIND is the first documentary created as part of the initiative „Der besondere Kin- derfilm“ and will have its premiere at Berlinale 2025 in the „Generation“ section. It is their second collabo- ration with producer Katharina Bergfeld and Flare Film.
