Simon Wood is an Emmy nominated filmmaker based in Cape Town, South Africa. Wood’s films have screened at the worlds largest film festivals and won numerous awards in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America.

Meghna Singh is a doctoral candidate at the University of Cape Town and a research associate at the African Centre for Migration and Society at WITS University Johannesburg. Hailing from New Delhi, India, she is currently pursuing visual art practice and a research project on the theme of oceanic migrations in South Africa. Working with mediums of video and installation, blurring boundaries between documentary and fiction, she creates immersive environments highlighting issues of ‘humanism’ through the tool of the imaginary. Her current focus is on the theme of critical mobilities, migration and the invisible class of mobile population that move around the world as a consequence of the capitalist globalized world we inhabit. Working with the visual as a methodology to conduct and present research, she received a project grant from Jo Vearey as a part of the Migration and Health Project funding through the Wellcome Trust, U.K.

The Choice

Dr. Joanne Popinska is a Polish-Canadian award-winning XR filmmaker, documentarian, and sociologist, with a Ph.D. in Film Directing (specialization: VR) from the Polish National Film School. She dedicates her creative vision to developing important conversations around complex topics such as human rights, animal rights, and the environment. By using the latest technology and various narrative techniques, she is continually exploring how to get the attention of audiences and how to evoke empathy and interest from different perspectives.

Bloodless

Gina Kim is a writer and director whose five feature films and works of video art have screened at over 150 prestigious international film festivals and venues such as Cannes, Venice, Berlin, and Sundance, as well as MoMa, Centre Pompidou, and the Smithsonian. Praised by Le Figaro as a “fearless feminist who conceals an extreme sensitivity,” Kim’s Invisible Light (2003) was selected as one of the 10 best films of 2003 by Film Comment. Never Forever (2007), starring Jung-woo Ha and Vera Farmiga, was the first co-production between the United States and South Korea. Kim’s latest work Bloodless (2017) won the Best VR Story Award at the 74th Venice International Film Festival, followed by international acclaim and numerous awards and nominations. Kim’s films have been theatrically released to critical acclaim in Europe, Asia, and the US. Kim is a professor at UCLA.

Golden Land

Inka Achté graduated in 2012 with an MA in documentary directing from the UK’s National Film and Television School. That same year she completed two award-winning short documentaries: The Wait and Alppikatu 25 - Home to the Homeless. Her debut feature, Boys Who Like Girls (2018), has been selected to more than 30 international festivals, including Sheffield DocFest, Nordisk Panorama, and DocNyc. In addition to filmmaking, Inka has worked in documentary sales, first at Taskovski Films and later at Autlook Filmsales. She is one of the founders of the Helsinki-based Raina Film Festival Distribution.

Girl Gang

Susanne Regina Meures was born in 1977, in Germany. She studied photography and art history at The Courtauld Institute of Art in London. She holds a Master in Film from ZHdK. Raving Iran, her first feature-length documentary, brought her international festival and box-office success. The film screened at countless festivals and won numerous awards. Saudi Runaway premiered at Sundance, and among other prizes, was nominated for the European Film Award in 2020. Girl Gang is her third feature-length documentary.

Cam is an award winning filmmaker with a demonstrated history of working on documentary, commercial and outdoor lifestyle focused films. He has spent the majority of his career building his portfolio as a director, and has found success in conservation/natural history storytelling. Cam has had the pleasure of working with some of the most influential names in conservation and his latest documentary won "Best Canadian Documentary" at the BC Environmental Film Fest. Through this work he has also cut his teeth as a cinematographer and editor. Cam’s inspiration as a filmmaker comes from the environment he is in and this often comes through in his work- nature is the true artist!

Rebellion

Maia is an independent documentary filmmaker from London. She has directed and produced films for charities and arts organizations, and taught creative workshops in schools and universities across the UK. With a background in history and art, she has always been interested in visual storytelling and the ways it can connect us to each other. In 2018 she met the co-founders of Extinction Rebellion and has spent the last four years immersed in the world of activism.

Elena is a Spanish filmmaker based in London. She is a self-shooting director and editor, keen on capturing the nuanced and complicated ways in which we are human. Her previous work includes films for public sector institutions such as the National Housing Federation and Arts Council England, as well as private clients like the NBA, MTV, and NBC. She runs workshops for filmmakers and teaches in the Documentary Film MA program at University College London. This is the first feature film she has directed.

Radji

Georg Götmark has a degree in film and cultural studies from Stockholm University and the Universidad Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. He has also completed a post-graduate course at the Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm. Georg is currently working as a producer and director at Filmfront Media AB, which he co-founded. He has worked with documentaries and in TV since 2001. He has worked on a number of international documentary projects, such as The Last Lacandones, a film about Mayan Indians, shot in Mexico; Transit Tanger, about Moroccans dreaming of a new life in Europe; and Citizen Oketch, about a family living in the Kibera slum outside of Nairobi. His first feature creative documentary, Bellum – The Daemon of War (2021), was about AI, robotics, and ethics. Georg has traveled extensively producing a number of TV series and reports for Swedish television, and educational films for universities, organizations and companies.

John Erling Utsi is a freelance Sami filmmaker and journalist with an extensive career at SVT-Sápmi.
