Full Synopsis

Solwata is a mixed-reality documentary set in the Solomon Islands. The islanders - Martha and Francis - relocated from Walande Island as king tides, storms, and rising seas made daily life increasingly precarious. Relocation is not an endpoint; for many families, the possibility of moving again remains. Participants enter a world reshaped by water. Food is harder to gather. Movement depends on tides. Children, like Lawrence, travel by canoe to reach school between islands that were once connected by land. Community routines adapt, again and again. Solwata places audiences inside a lived experience of climate change, one whose irreversible consequences are felt by communities least responsible for the crisis.
