Verzio DocLab

Workshop for Documentary Film Projects
November 6-9, 2013

Verzio DocLab is a four-day workshop for documentary filmmakers and independent producers working on projects dealing with minority, immigration, social justice, human rights and Roma issues.

The second Verzio DocLab is an intensive workshop where three projects will be reviewed and mentored by Rada Šešić (film maker, consultant, IDFA Berta Fund, Holland), Stefano Tealdi (producer, director, Stefilm, Documentary in Europe, Italy) and Leena Pasanen, (director of Finnagora), and presented to a selection of international financiers and broadcasters.

Participating projects are:

  • Gay Men, Straight Dictatorships (director: Mária Takács, producer: Julianna Ugrin, Éclipse Film, Hungary)
  • The Other Life of Charon (director: Ioana Turcan, producer: Mihai Leaha, Triba Film, executive producer: Vlad Cantoreanu, Romania)
  • The Queen of Spades (director and producer: Agnieszka Zwiefka, Chilli productions, Poland)

In the workshop, we will go through the principles of storytelling, character development, treatment writing and trailer editing. Participants will receive advice on budgeting, and how to develop a financing plan for their projects, as well as festival strategies. Special emphasis is placed on verbal presentation of the project: how to make a good pitch. Participants will be introduced to financing possibilities available for filmmakers, producers and festivals in Europe.

The documentary projects will be presented in a pitching forum at the end of the workshop. The pitching forum is open to the public and will take place on Saturday, November 9, 12.00 midday at OSA Archivum, (1051 Budapest Arany János utca 32).
