Doc Around Europe launches VOD platform. A new showcase for emerging documentary filmmakers

Doc Around Europe, a network of European documentary film festivals, is excited to announce the official launch of its very first VOD platform, doc-around-europe.net, showcasing high-quality European documentaries. The launching event of the new VOD platform takes place on 18 February 2024 at the European Film Market during the Berlin International Film Festival.

More than ever, we need documentary filmmakers to help us make sense of a complex and ever-changing world. Convinced that documentary films can be a powerful tool for social progress, the Doc Around Europe network is proud to announce the creation of its very first VOD platform, doc-around-europe.net. Nurturing new voices and directors, the network understands the exciting potential of digital tools to reach wider audiences. This VOD platform represents a strategic and innovative way of improving visibility for European films.

Bringing together the joint forces of network members (DocsBarcelona, DOK.fest München, MakeDox, FIPADOC, and VERZIÓ), the platform aims to showcase films made by younger talents. It will also target European and international festival programmers, buyers and distributors, with the goal of providing more opportunities to the films and their creators. Curated by the network members, the platform offers a curated selection of up to 40 new films annually. This initiative marks a shift towards fostering emerging talent, and acquainting the European audience and industry with new, up-and-coming directors.

The launching event of the new VOD platform takes place on 18 February 2024, 6:30 p.m., at the European Film Market (EFM) during the Berlin International Film Festival.

About the Doc Around Europe festival network:

Initiated by DOK.fest München in 2020, the new network Doc Around Europe (formerly: FestDocsEurope) brings together five relevant documentary film festivals throughout the continent. Together with partner festivals – FIPADOC, Dokfest München, DocsBarcelona and MakeDox – Verzió works on activities dedicated to emerging talents in documentary film.

The aim of the network linking the five European documentary film festivals is to promote the circulation of documentary films and to support film professionals, especially young talents, from the regions represented by each festival, and to facilitate the sharing of experience and the international exposure of the filmmakers and their works, as well as their projects in different stages of development.

The filmmakers from the partner festvials' regions will have the opportunity to participate in the Verzió DocLab and Young Critics workshops and present their films in the Student and Debut Film Competition.
