Stephan Komandarev studied directing at the New Bulgarian University in Sofia. His films, The Balloon (1997), Dog’s Home (2000), Bread over the Fence (2002), Alphabet of Hope (2003), The Judgement (2014), and Directions (2017) were awarded by numerous prestigious festivals.

Marie Elisa Scheidt studied documentary film in Munich and Toronto. Her films Loly H (2013), Sobota (2014), and Our Wildest Dreams (2017) have been screened and awarded at numerous major film festivals around the world.

Linda Dombrovszky graduated as a film and television director in 2013. She has directed a music documentary, image films, non-commercial films, and a reality series. Her documentaries and short films attended and received awards at several festivals.

Magdalena Szymkow is a documentary filmmaker, screenwriter and film archives researcher with a journalistic background. Her film My House Without Me (2012), a cinematic essay about displacement, was nationally broadcasted, awarded and screened at festivals all over the world.

Evdokia Moskvina studied film production at the Sorbonne University in Paris. In 2011 she directed the film Our Dreams Come True, which was successfully presented at the Cannes festival. Currently, Evdokia is post-producing a documentary filmed in Syria in 2016, a story about civilians in the war.

The Limits of Work

Apolena Rychlíková (1989) is a Czech documentary film director and journalist. She graduated from the Documentary Film Department at FAMU, Prague. She takes interest in public space, and is dedicated to socially engaged documentary filmmaking.

Askold Kurov Üzbegisztánban született és Oroszországban él 1991 óta. A moszkvai Marina Razbezhkina Filmiskolában szerezte a diplomáját dokumentumfilm-készítésből. Egy házasság története

Az egyik legkiemelkedőbb cseh dokumentumfilm rendező, Helena Trestíková a prágai FAMU (Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts) filmakadémiát befejezően negyven film elkészítését mondhatja magáénak. A nemzetkezi figyelmet a 2000-res években forgatott portréfilmjei nyerték el számára (René, Marcella, Katka). A három filmben közös, hogy az elnyomott emberi lét sivár történetei egyedi és lenyűgöző narratívába transzformálódnak át a filmvásznon.

The Trial

Born in Uzbekistan, Askold Kurov has lived in Russia since 1991. He earned a degree in documentary filmmaking at Marina Razbezhkina and Mikhail Ugarov’s School of Documentary Film and Theater in Moscow. His films Winter, Go Away!, Leninland and Children 404 won critical acclaim and were screened at numerous festivals. His work focuses on human rights and social conflict in contemporary Russia.

A Marriage Story

One of the most important Czech documentary filmmakers, Helena Třeštíková has directed some forty films since graduating from Prague’s FAMU film school. Her latest trilogy of portraits (Marcela, René, Katka), shot in the late 2000s, brought her international attention. Masterpieces of editing, the three films confirm the filmmaker’s deftness at transforming the humdrum existence of the downtrodden into unique, fascinating narratives.
