Pölcz Róbert, Pölcz Boglárka / Hungary / 2001 / 9 min / Hungarian

The audience is invited to take part in a strange game. It is as if we were watching an early ethnographic film shot in a distant colony. As if happiness experienced in poverty – unimaginable for most of us, cinema-goers – was an experience possible to share. As if we felt at home with them in Szilágyság in Romania, at the Hadad-Nádasd Gypsy settlement.
"The traveler visits distant continents and when he returns home, he presents his motion pictures of the 'savages' to high society in an eloquent movie theatre. The actual shooting was done on one single day. But it took five years to get to know each other before that day."
